Daddy Longlegs

Also known as a harvestmen, it may look like a spider, but it's not.  However, like a spider, scorpion and tick, it is an arachnid; not an insect.  It does not make a web or have poison fangs as has been rumored.  When attacked it will protect itself by releasing an obnoxious odor.  Its eight legs double as sense organs.  Just to make things more confusing, there is another creature that looks similar and it is called a daddy long legs spider.

Grand-Daddy Long Legs is an arachnid with a mission.  Only problem, he can't remember what it is.  In Chapter 14 of
A Pilgrimage of Pests Grand Daddy Long-Legs introduces himself as the commander-in-chief.  'An old soldier never dies', he says about himself.   As a former war hero, he is forever reminiscing about past battles, or looking for new ones to wage.

Getting along in age, he is absent-minded and seems to live in a permanent state of confusion.   Likable and harmless to everyone but himself, Grand Daddy Long-Legs is one of the more memorable characters you will meet in the trilogy, Cockroach of Meadowfield.

Nice close-up of a Daddy Longlegs cleaning.  Cleaning what you ask?  It's legs of course.  Who knew they were so tidy?
