Ra: The Sun God

Ra is considered the most powerful of all the gods of ancient Egypt. He is usually shown in human form with the head of a falcon (sometimes a beetle's head) crowned with a sun disc. With each day, according to ancient myth, Ra sailed across the heavens in a boat, carrying the sun with him. With night, he disappeared below the horizon and died, leaving the moon to light the sky. After traveling through the underworld, he was reborn the next day, bringing the sun along with him as he sailed across the sky yet again.

Scarab the Dung is obsessed with someone or something she calls Ra.  We learn more about Ra in The Great Cicada Ball and there will be much more to learn about the sun god in the third and final book of the trilogy: Heroes of Meadowfield.

Cool little animation that presents a short version of the legend of Ra, ancient Egypt's sun god.
