Robber Fly

These insects get their name from their habit of lying in ambush before swooping in on their prey. Large compound eyes provide excellent eyesight to spot prey, often bigger than themselves. Grabbing their victims in flight, they use powerful legs to hold the prey. Then, using their sharp proboscis (sucking mouthpart), they stab and inject a chemical that paralyzes, digests and liquefies the victim's insides; all of which is then sucked in through the proboscis.

There is no pest that strikes more fear throughout Meadowfield than the horrid creature known as Robber Fly. Not only is he is agile, wiry, and deceptive, he is a fluid-sucking killer who uses his killing point to stab and drain the life from his victims. No pest, not even a Bully Wasp, has much hope of surviving an attack from this heartless creature.  He patrols the region where the Great Pasture ends and the edge of the Unknown Forest begins.  As luck would have it, the Queen orders Worker 1200 to enter this very region.

Read The Great Cicada Ball and find out what fate could be in store for Worker 1200 should she meet this beastly creature on his home turf.

My guess is that after watching this video, you will see why the Robber Fly is such a menace to the insect world. This is not for the faint of heart!  No wonder Robber Fly scares Worker 1200 to death!
